First Impressions: 3 Things I Hate About the Bay Area
Last week I shared with you 6 Things I Love About the Bay Area. I’ve got to be honest, I can’t find a whole lot I don’t like. Yet. Sure, give it some time and I am sure they will come creeping out. But, in the meantime, here are a few things that provide a little annoyance off the bat.
1. Pedestrian Traffic
I mean seriously. Does everyone have to bike or walk everywhere? I mean I know the weather is great and it’s a very walkable area, but does that mean that I as a driver have to be on the lookout for moving objects wherever I go? As drivers in CA, pedestrians have the right of way. So if I happen to be cruising along and see someone headed across the street, I have to stop. This could be dangerous for walkers and drivers who aren’t very good at paying attention.
2. The Caldecott Tunnel
It’s a tunnel that connects Oakland to the Contra Costa County area on the other side of the hill. It’s a tunnel that goes through a hill! I don’t know why I don’t like this thing.
Actually, I do.
Have I told you I am claustrophobic? Good thing this stupid tunnel isn’t longer than it is. I would die. Literally.
3. Traffic
This is nothing new. Don’t know why I’m surprised – it’s everywhere and I can’t escape it. I have come to terms with this fact.
So that’s about it! Pretty simple so far. What are the things you hate about East Bay, or your own city? Let me know in the comments!

I look forward to more posts on the Bay Area, I use to live there and always enjoy anything about the old neighborhood!
I look forward to bringing you more! What area did you live in?
I think California’s “pedestrian friendly” laws are sane. People just gotta watch out for and be courteous to each other.
In Malaysia, the cars don’t stop for pedestrians. It’s a lot more dangerous. I really hate Malaysian drivers, Sarawakians in particular.
They are totally sane. I am just grasping for straws here because there is really nothing I don’t like yet!
Twin Cities pedestrians and bikers are the same. There are so many and they are everywhere. Luckily urban Minnesota areas are devoted to bike lanes and paths, which helps. I love to visit the Bay area (adore the restaurants), but just realize I never drive there; I’m always walking or on Bart!
