A week and a half ago, I was experimenting with my “wanna be” Starbucks coffee flavors and came up with my
Pumpkin Spiced Coffee. I mentioned that my husband and I love the White Chocolate Mocha at Starbucks and he challenged me to make one. So of course I accepted, and this was the result…
Absolutely fabulous! I doubt this is how they really do it at Starbucks, they probably have some pump filled with a substance that you can’t get anywhere except from the super secret headquarters, but my version will do in a pinch. It may also save you a little money considering that a whole bag of white chocolate chip is less than $3.
There are a few ways you can do this, depending on what kind of equipment you have on hand at home. You can either melt the chips in the microwave and steam the milk as usual (assuming you have a cappuccino maker with a steamer attachment), then mix them together or you can try my method which imitates a double boiler.
Go ahead and make a shot of espresso in your coffee/espresso maker, or just use really strong coffee. Meanwhile, bring a pot of water (only a couple inches) to a boil and place a big bowl on top with your milk. As your milk heats up, add your white chocolate chips and stir until they melt completely.
And you’re done! Just pour this into your waiting coffee mug (you should already have your espresso ready). I decided to make some Whipped Cream to go with mine while I was waiting for the chocolate chips to melt. It was an indulgent Sunday for me, so I also had a Witches’ Broomstick Cookie with it. Mmmm…
I’m so nice, I even made one for the hubby:
Wanna Be White Chocolate Mocha
For a 12 ounce latte
1 shot espresso
1 1/2 cups milk (I used 1%)
1/2 cup white chocolate chips*
*You can adjust the amounts more or less depending
on how sweet you would like it.
Using a double boiler or a microwave, heat your milk and chocolate chips until the chips are melted and the milk is steamed. Pour into a coffee mug with one shot of espresso and top with whipped cream.
