Peach Margaritas {Monthly Buzz}
Make this.
Make this now. Sure it may be morning for some of you. Or maybe, I don’t know, a Wednesday. But who cares. This is so good, I am telling you to make it now.
When I initially thought about doing a margarita for the Monthly Buzz, I was going to do a mango margarita. I used to make those all the time and they are so good. So, with that said, you can substitute mangoes in this recipe no problem. I went peaches this time because, number one they are all over the place. Number two, mangoes are at the end of their peak season and it seems that the grocery stores want me to pay that price. Literally.
I also couldn’t find a recipe online that I wanted to try. Most of them involved using peach schnapps, which I wanted nothing to do with. So I went by how I usually make my regular margaritas and then came up with this recipe.
The Buzz:
You can use fresh or frozen peaches for this recipe and I have used both. Personally I like using the frozen ones better – only because I don’t have to mess with ice. I can never seem to get ice blended just the way it needs to be. Using frozen peaches produces a velvety smooth yet cold texture (pictured above).
As for the tequila you use, it is completely up to you. Lesser aged tequilas provide a more harsh flavor, and the longer they are aged they become smoother. In the order of young to aged, they are: Blanco/Plata (silver), Joven/Oro (gold), Reposada, Añejo, and Extra Añejo. You can play around with the liquor measurements. If you want just a breezy refreshment with more peach flavor, use only 1 ounce of tequila per serving. If you want more of a social vibe with more kick, make as written with 1 1/2 ounces of tequila. I’m warning you now though, they go down very easy.
Highly Recommended
For more of a punch, prepare as written. For a more subtle tequila flavor, use only 1 ounce of tequila per serving. If using fresh peaches, add 5-6 ice cubes to get desired consistency.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 ounces tequila**
- 1 1/2 ounces simple syrup*
- 1/2 ounce triple sec
- juice of 1/2 lime
- 1 cup frozen peaches
- peach slice and lime wheel, for garnish
- ** 1 shot glass is equal to 1 1/2 ounces
Directions
- Combine equal parts sugar and water and mix until sugar dissolves. This can be done by shaking or stirring or heating over the stovetop. If heated, allow to cool completely before using. Can be made in batches and stored in the fridge.
- Add all liquid ingredients to the blender first, then add peaches.
- Blend all ingredients to a smooth consistency.
- Pour into glass and garnish with a peach slice and lime wheel.
