Margarita el Fuego

It’s summer.

Summers around my house means it’s time to break out the tequila.

Mix up a batch of ice cold margaritas and hang out on the back deck cause it’s time to cool off.

If you’ve got kids, that makes it all the more important to whip up a batch of this fiery margarita cocktail. It’s your excuse to unwind! A little bit of heat – just enough to keep you on your toes. I thought a spicy margarita would be pretty tasty after I did the lemon juice cleanse last year. The mixture is water, maple syrup, lemon juice, and cayenne. The mixture itself was actually pretty tasty. I found that the hotter it was, the more I liked it – that spicy/sweet combination rocked.

Here I am, supposed to be cleansing and all I could think was “this would be great as a margarita”.

Mis en Place

Margarita el Fuego

Simple enough right? Not too much going on here, but it sure does pack a punch.

Sweet, cold, spicy. The perfect combination.

IF you can take the heat.

Kitchen Notes

  • This version is pretty mild, just enough heat to let you know it’s in there. To kick it up a notch, let the jalapeño steep for an hour or use serrano peppers instead.
  • I like to top mine with slices of peppers for garnish and a dash of cayenne.
  • Be careful, it goes down pretty easy.
