Fat Camp Friday #37: Homemade Caramel Sauce
If you do not already know, July is National Ice Cream month. Yes, I said that correctly. Just gives me one more excuse to make more ice cream and tasty treats to go along with it. Because hot summer days, my love for ice cream, and my need to experiment were not enough excuses. I am bringing you an ice cream treat (IceCream with Cardamom and Pistachios) later today for my Women in Food post, so for Fat Camp Friday, I wanted to show you how to make a quick and easy caramel sauce – with minimal cream. The best part – it only takes 10 minutes!
The result is a rich, sweet, perfectly sauce in which a little goes a long way. I have already drizzled it on graham crackers, used it as a dip for my apples, a sweetener in my latte and a topper for my ice cream. The uses are endless. What will you use it for?
The quickest way to make a caramel sauce that is delicious on just about anything!
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons flour (for a thinner sauce, use 1 T)
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- dash salt
- 1 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoons cream
- vanilla, to taste
Directions
- Mix sugar with flour in saucepan; blend well. Add water and salt.
- Stir while cooking for 5 to 6 minutes. If too thick add a little more water.
- Remove from heat; stir in butter, cream, and vanilla to taste.
